AISI 204Cu | EN 1.4597 | DIN X8CrMnCuNB17-8-3 - is a special type of stainless steel that is a chromium-magnesium austenitic stainless steel. Due to the addition of copper, the steel has better formability than AISI 201 and AISI 304 stainless steels. Copper improves corrosion resistance and increases resistance to stress corrosion cracking in certain environments. EN 1.4597 is somewhere between the prices of 200 and 300 series stainless steels.

Technological properties

⓵ Welding

This stainless steel is easy to weld and is non-magnetic even after rough stamping operations.

⓶ Annealing

EN 1.4597 are maintained at a temperature of 1038 - 1121 °C followed by rapid cooling in water or air.

⓷ Processing

For AISI 204Cu, conventional machining methods can be used. Very good machining results can also be achieved by using a special lubricant and at an appropriate machining speed.

⓸ Forging

The steel is first heated to 1093°C, impregnated and heated again to 1176°C and finally levelled before forging.

The AISI 204Cu stainless steel alloy is additionally alloyed with silicon, manganese, molybdenum and nickel. Its distinctive feature is corrosion resistance and high impact toughness. Products made from this grade are strong enough to withstand standard mechanical loads: impacts, friction, etc.

Application

The scope of application of this unusual stainless steel is very wide: durable items, including household items - kitchen gas and other stoves, washing machine drums, furniture and door fittings (handles, locks, door hinges, etc.), flower and fruit vases, trays, architectural and building structures, window and door frames, railings and handrails, decorative structures, urns, garbage cans, waste containers, glass cleaning brush holders, transport, wheel caps, car trim elements, rims and bumpers, auto accessories and much more.
