Stainless steel round pipe AISI 201 - is a type of stainless rolled metal product, the characteristic features of which are its shape as a long hollow product with a round cross-section and the grade of stainless steel from which it is made.
There are other signs that are inherent in the round pipe 201 (EN 1.4372). So the pipe is made by welding with subsequent polishing of the outer (sometimes inner) surface. Although in most cases of production the pipe is welded by the TIG (Tungsten Insert Gas / Inert Gas Tungsten) method - tungsten electrodes in an inert gas, it should be noted that the strength of the weld seam of such a tube is still weaker than that of the stainless round pipe AISI 304. AISI 201 steel has a lower content of alloying chemical elements (nickel, chromium), which, due to exposure to high temperatures during the welding process, burn out in the welding zone, and this, in turn, has a negative effect on the strength of the weld.
Mechanical processing
The pipe is quite easy to polish and grind. The surface shade after processing may differ slightly from the surface of the AISI 304 pipe due to a slightly lower chromium content in the composition (although almost imperceptible to the naked eye). Cutting (for example, with a grinder) is more difficult compared to the AISI 304 pipe due to the higher carbon content in its composition. When cutting the pipe with a cutting wheel, sparking is typical, similar to when cutting ordinary carbon steel. Bending is also somewhat more difficult due to the carbon content affecting the strength.
Welding
The pipe is welded perfectly by all known welding methods. If necessary, use filler when welding.
Price, cost
Due to the lower nickel content in the composition of the pipe of this grade, the cost is lower than that of the round pipe AISI 304.
So: stainless steel pipe 201 is characterized by high strength, plasticity, rigidity and has very low thermal conductivity. Non-magnetic. Structures made of this pipe can be used in a fairly wide range of temperatures. One of the advantages of pipe 201 is its fairly high resistance to corrosion. Such a pipe can be in moderately aggressive environments for a long time and in this indicator AISI 201 is slightly inferior to AISI 304 pipe, but significantly surpasses pipes made of AISI 430 and similar grades. However, very long-term contact with aggressive chemicals is still highly undesirable.
