AISI 304L | EN 1.4306 | EN 1.4307 | DIN X2CrNi19-11 is essentially a higher alloy version of EN 1.4307 | DIN X2CrNi18-9. Due to the higher chromium content and especially the higher nickel content, EN 1.4306 | DIN X2CrNi19-11 is a more corrosion-resistant grade than EN 1.4307 | DIN X2CrNi18-9.

EN 1.4306 | DIN X2CrNi19-11 is an austenitic stainless steel. It is used for structures where a low carbon content is required, such as in heavy sensor components. Its different composition from AISI 304 also eliminates the need for post-weld annulment to effectively maximize corrosion resistance. In addition, it also has a higher cure rate.

Due to the low carbon content of the steel, there is virtually no tendency for chromium carbides and the associated chromium areas to form around them. The resistance to intergranular corrosion is therefore superior to grades with higher carbon content.

This steel is resistant to corrosion in most natural waters, urban and rural air, provided that the chloride and salt content is low. This grade of stainless steel is not resistant to sea water and should not be used in sea water applications. Like EN 1.4307, this steel is not suitable for use in swimming pools. Resistance to acids is also limited to low concentrations and low temperatures.

Welding

It can be welded with or without filler material, but it is better welded when using filler. It is recommended to use AISI 308L as the best filler. No post-weld heat treatment is required.

Cold processing

The low carbon content of the steel reduces the tendency to harden during machining. However, the machinability of this steel grade is inferior to that of EN 1.4307.

Forging

The steel is usually heated slowly to a temperature range of 1150 - 1180 °C to allow forging to take place at temperatures between 1180 - 950 °C. Forging is followed by air cooling or water quenching when there is no danger of distortion.
