AISI 316HMo | EN 1.4436 | DIN X3CrNiMo17-13-3 - austenitic stainless steel. This is an improved and refined version of grade 316L. The main difference between the grades is the concentration of nickel, molybdenum and chromium additives. Each grade has an increased molybdenum content, which has a significant effect on resistance to corrosion in acids.
Welding
The steel is easily welded using all welding processes. Filler material can be used in welding. No post-weld heat treatment is required, but it should be noted that the relatively high carbon content can lead to the formation of chromium carbides, which in turn can lead to susceptibility to intergranular corrosion.
Any tint or heat resulting from welding or high temperature processing must be either mechanically or chemically removed followed by passive treatment to restore corrosion resistance.
Forging
The working parts are usually preheated to a temperature of 1150 to 1200 °C, with forging taking place between 1200 and 900 °C. After forging, the component must be rapidly cooled in both air and water to avoid the formation of undesirable phases that could adversely affect corrosion and mechanical properties.
Application
AISI 316HMo | EN 1.4436 | DIN X3CrNiMo17-13-3 is widely used in the production of pumps, chemical tanks, pipelines and installations, heat exchangers, screws, special coolers, food products. In the chemical, textile, paper, oil and marine industries, this steel is very often used.
