Titanium stabilization gives AISI 430Ti | EN 1.4510 | DIN X3CrTi17 steel good resistance to intercrystalline corrosion. In addition, titanium also binds sulfur, which leads to better resistance to pitting corrosion. Like all ferritic stainless steel, AISI 430Ti is not sensitive to stress corrosion.

Steel has good corrosion resistance when interacting with mineral, organic acids, and alkaline solutions. It is also resistant to atmospheric corrosion, high-temperature oxidation, and hot water.

Welding

This steel is weldable by all known methods. Provided that post-weld pickling/cleaning and passivation operations are performed, there will be no loss of corrosion properties at the weld site (including the heat-affected zone). It is optimal to use arc welding in inert gases, while maintaining the minimum energy input into the weld. Welding "from above" is recommended (when the welded surface is located below the welding tool). Austenitic wire AISI 309L, etc. can be used as filler material. To ensure adequate corrosion resistance, it is necessary to remove scale and tarnish colors by pickling or mechanical treatment with stainless steel brushes and passivate with a cold 10 - 20% nitric acid solution. Further thorough rinsing with cold water and drying are necessary.

Molding

AISI 430Ti steel, like AISI 439, is easily formed. Most standard deep drawing processes (bending, stamping) can be performed in one pass.

Processing

Annealing in the temperature range of 825 °C is followed by further cooling in air. The steel can be polished. However, in the presence of stabilizing elements (Ti, Nb) it is impossible to achieve a good mirror surface.
