Stainless Steel Grade AISI 436 | EN 1.4526 | DIN X6CrMoNb17-1

AISI 436 | EN 1.4526 | DIN X6CrMoNb17-1 is a ferritic stainless steel alloyed with molybdenum. It is an improvement of the AISI 434 grade with a small stabilizing additive of niobium. Suitable for use in many aggressive environments. Can be welded without fear of intercrystalline corrosion.

One of the most widely used dispersion hardening grades in industry. Although the metal of this grade is soft and ductile in the solution annealing state, it is capable of acquiring high properties after a single precipitation or aging treatment. It is characterized by good corrosion resistance, high rigidity, viscosity and strength.

Machinability

Long sticky chips characterize the machinability of this metal. It can be machined in an annealed condition. When machining under such conditions, the parts should be treated with a solution after machining before final hardening.

Cold stamping

It is easily drawn and formed. Its cold working characteristics are similar to those of mild steel, although it is stronger in the annealed condition and requires stronger tools and increased power. It is also suitable for most hot stamping operations. It has a slight tendency to curl when formed, but this is minimized by the addition of niobium.

Welding

This alloy is welded successfully by conventional fusion and resistance methods. It should not be joined by oxyacetylene welding. It is recommended to use filler metal if necessary.

Forging

Before forging, cure at 1177 °C for 1 hour. Do not work below 1010 °C. Post-work solution treatment is required before final curing.
