Stainless Steel Grade EN 1.4482 | S32001 (2001) | X2CrMnNiMoN21-5-3

EN 1.4482 | S32001 (2001) | X2CrMnNiMoN21-5-3 is a high quality duplex stainless steel. When properly heat treated it has a microstructure with a nearly equal proportion of austenite and ferrite. This microstructure ensures that duplex EN 1.4482 is much more resistant to stress corrosion cracking than austenitic stainless steels.

Stainless steel EN 1.4482 - designed for primary forming into forged products. It has a moderately low base cost among forged duplex stainless steels. In addition, it has moderately high ductility.

Weldability

This steel can be welded using most common welding methods such as MMA/SMAW, TIG, MIG, SAW, FCAW, laser, etc. Due to its dual-phase structure, the alloy is resistant to hot cracking, grain coarsening, embrittlement, and martensite formation. Recommendations for proper welding conditions include a common alloy filler, a heat input of no more than 2 kJ/mm, and nitrogen in the shielding gas. Like other duplex stainless steels, UNS S32001 generally does not require preheating or post-welding treatment.

Heat treatment

Annealing of the solution at 1020 °C - 1100 °C followed by quenching in water.

Surface cleaning

Wash the surface with neutral soap and water applied with a cloth or brush without scratching the stainless steel. Then always rinse the stainless steel with water to completely remove the cleaning agent. Finally, it is recommended to dry the surface to maintain a good surface condition. In severe conditions, frequent cleaning is highly recommended.

General characteristics

- good resistance to stress corrosion cracking;
- good resistance to general corrosion;
- high mechanical strength;
- high resistance to erosion corrosion and corrosion fatigue;
